Mark your calendar for the La Plata Dems annual picnic! This year it will be on August 28th from 12-2 pm at the Isgar Ranch, CR213 (La Posta Road). We are looking for grills and grillers - contact Sweetie Marbury at sweetie65@bresnan.net if you can help.
Our signature event "Artists for Change" returns this year with a new moniker: "Artists for Progress" and will be held Saturday, September 4th at the Open Shutter Gallery from 6-8 pm. Only 100 tickets at $100 per person will be sold (each ticket is a chance to win a work of art) and more than 50 artists are contributing items valued up to $2,000. There will be gourmet food and wine provided. For tickets, or if you're an artist who'd like to donate work, contact Laura at Laura@laplatadems.org or 259-2501. All money raised will go directly to our candidates for this year's critical election.

Volunteer opportunities
Please consider helping the La Plata Dems reach out to the public and serve our community. It's a lot of fun and you'll be spending time with great people. Contact Margaret Martin at 799-2314 or margaret.durango@gmail.com for more information on any of these opportunities.
We need people to help staff the La Plata County Democrats' 2010 Campaign Office Headquarters at 1101 Main Ave. in Durango. Volunteers are needed to fill a regular time-slot each week. Volunteers are also needed who will help out occasionally. To have the office open regularly from 11am-5pm on Monday - Saturday, we need volunteers for every afternoon 2pm-5pm and for Fridays and Saturdays 11am-2pm.
The La Plata County Fair is Wednesday through Sunday, August 11-15 at the La Plata County Fairgrounds at 2500 Main Ave. We'll congregate with our candidates at our fair booth, pass out literature and discuss issues. We need volunteers for our booth at the fair. Fair hours are from 9am through 6pm on Wednesday and Saturday, through 8pm on Thursday and Friday, and through 2pm on Sunday. We also need help to set up our booth on Tuesday and break down our booth on Sunday.
We need volunteers to help prepare and serve breakfast at Manna Soup Kitchen on the 2nd and 5th Sundays of each month. Many volunteers have enjoyed this rewarding experience for over one year. Manna's clients truly appreciate our time and effort. Our next Sunday to volunteer is August 8th. We start about 8am.
Thanks for your time and interest!
