Join us this month to learn more about candidates on the November ballot. We'll hear from House District 59 candidates Katie Stewart and Clark Craig followed by a Q&A. Then we'll hear from CO Senate District 6 candidates Vivian Smotherman and Cleave Simpson followed by a Q&A.
- Democrat Katie Stewart is a fourth generation Durangoan, has deep roots in Southwest Colorado and possesses an understanding of the unique needs and challenges facing our rural areas. She has been on the 9-R School board since 2021. An empathetic listener, Katie has developed a collaborative and situational leadership approach with her work in La Plata County and across Colorado.
- Republican candidate Clark Craig has been Mayor of Ignacio since 2022. Clark is a graduate of Durango HS and has BS in Mathematics from Northeastern State in OK. He held various leadership positions in oil & gas information technology and production automation for 25 years.
- Democrat Vivian Smotherman is a farmer and a veteran who spent over 20 years working in the oil and gas field. Her top three priorities are affordable housing, school funding and safety, and rural health care.
- Republican Cleave Simpson is the incumbentSimpson is the general manager of the Rio Grande Water Conservation District and also served on the Adams State University Board of Trustees from 2015 to 2020. A native of the San Luis Valley, he is a fourth-generation farmer and rancher there. He graduated from the Colorado School of Mines in 1984.
